Summer!

The down side to summer vacation is that I only make 9 months worth of pay across a 12 month period, but there are so many upsides to SUMMER!!! Sleeping in/ taking naps/ staying up late, getting more exercise, getting to be just a "momma", not having to pay daycare, not having IEP meetings, finally getting to read some books, going swimming, taking vacations, having a cleaner house, etc. etc. Well in April we had this robin that kept tapping on our east, lower level window. We've taken to calling it the "cuckoo bird" or "stupid bird" (normally 'stupid' is a bad word at our house, but in this case it just seemed well deserved). It's a robin that sometimes hit the glass really hard but not hard enough to actually snap its neck (which sometimes we wished it would do). Sometimes it just ran into it over and over again. I thought it might be blind because it has some skin colored rings around its black eyes that look like scars or something. If we walked toward the window it would fly off. Then it started tapping on other windows around the house. What the heck?! I don't know if it was trying to get into our house or what. I am not a bird psychologist, that's for sure. After MANY days of this, Eric borrowed a pellet gun from a friend (again, usually not something we would do but it seemed even a blind bird would have learned where our house was now and know to fly around it so we thought we'd put it out of its misery), but then the bird sort of let up and we couldn't take any videos of its silliness nor would it keep at it long enough for Eric to take aim and take any shots at it. Well... turns out it was a pregnant, hormonal momma bird and how many of us ladies don't feel like knocking our heads on the wall now an' then? It built a nest in the aspen tree by our driveway and hatched three baby birdies. I'm trying to post a video of the babies chirping for food but blogger doesn't like me right now, so here's the nest.
