These are pictures from Espen's preschool graduation at LLLC. He got to say the opening prayer (cute - let me tell you!), then they sang songs (a mix of church songs and traditional children's songs), said memory verses, and received their "diplomas" with a certificate for free registration at the affiliated private school next door (if registration is $260 for a 5 year old, how much does their annual education cost?!!! whoa people!), and a children's Bible. We have really enjoyed reading the Bible stories with him. This Bible is a nice upgrade from the very simple stories he has been reading. This one has more stories from the Bible and has more of a summary of each one that includes more details than the previous one did. It is a step above, while still simplifying things over the real deal. Perfect for our 5 year old! Espen also received a special honor from the board because he participated in their outreach program this year. They asked us to read to our children every night (easy right? we do that anyway), write down the titles of the books we read, and get sponsors/ donations to support the child. Then the money raised was used to buy goats for families in Nigeria so that they could have the milk/ cheese and then any "kids" that were born from the goats would go to new families to increase the sustained economic and nutritional environments for the families. It went on for about 6 months of the school year. We averaged 125 books per month (and that's mostly just our bedtime stories - not midday/ anything from grandparents' houses or school). Here's the sad part - Espen is the only kiddo at LLLC who participated. Luckily, kids at Intermountain Adventist Academy next door got into it and together they raised at least $1200. Much better! That would buy a lot of billy goats (at $60-80 each). After they presented him with a wrapped gift he went over and sat on Eric's lap had such a RED FACE!!! Oh my goodness I felt so sorry for him. I guess he told Eric, "I'm feeling shy". Yeah, that was probably a bit embarrassing/ anxiety inducing to be singled out like that. When we got home he opened the package and he got 2 new Dr. Seuss books that we don't already own. Nice!!
