The guys we hired to do the demolition of the tile floors put down some new 1/4" subfloor underlayment so that everything would be ready for hardwood floors. Oh yeah, but first they cut a big hole in the middle of our kitchen floor in order to put new subfloor in because it was wearing out. Spooky hole to come home to. Luckily they covered it up before they left for the night.
We ordered some red oak natural hardwoods from (of all store names) Carpetime. They said it would take 2 days, maybe 3 to finish them. I was hoping for a quick job that would mean we could start moving in Wednesday night. Not so much. Dustin came over on Monday of Thanksgiving week to get started, but he was sick on Tuesday, then worked on Wednesday and had the holiday off, so the floors were finished on Friday by about 2 pm. In the whole scheme of things, waiting another day or two wasn't too bad. Then we started moving in!
